Placeholder Policy for a Non-Official MTG event:

Before reading this long string of text, we at Nemesis Comics and Games take no credit for the following passage. To be honest, it is completely copied from NYSE Vintage tournament (with some modifications).

This event will be run at competitive rules enforcement level, so please pay attention! If you have a question regarding an interaction, please either seek out a judge before the event or call a judge when needed. The judge staff is there for you! Please make use of them when needed!

Unlimited Placeholders/Proxies are legal for this event. The guidelines on proxies are as follows:

A placeholder/proxy, for the purposes of Nemesis Comics and Games Legacy event, is a legal Magic: the Gathering card that has had certain information either blanked out (i.e. with acetone) or has had certain information blacked out (with black Sharpie marker).

Please strongly consider using MDFC helper cards as your placeholder/proxies! They are among the best options available!

All information of the placeholder/proxied card must be recorded, and easily legible. For example, a Mox Diamond would need to reflect its mana cost (zero), card type (artifact), and text (If this artifact would enter, you may discard a land card instead. If you do, put this artifact onto the battlefield. If you don't, put it into its owner's graveyard. Tap to add one of any mana to your mana pool). Black Sharpie marker is excellent for this. Pen is not, and would not be accepted, as it is not easily legible at a distance.

Some cards are better than others for placeholder/proxies. A Revised Island is an excellent choice for a placeholder/proxy, as the light background of the card makes it far easier to read than a newer, darker printing. It should always be clear, to you, your opponent, and the judge staff, what your placeholder/proxies are.

International Edition and Collector's Edition cards are wonderful placeholder/proxies, and are acceptable for this event.

Printouts, either those that have been glued to Magic cards, or those that are inserted into sleeves, are marked cards, and will not be legal placeholder/proxies for this event. The thickness of the card has been altered, and this will make the card marked for all intents and purposes.

Fake Magic cards of any kind will not be legal placeholder/proxies for this event.

Legacy is an exceptionally expensive format, and the purpose of a placeholder/proxy is to lower the barrier of entry a little bit, so that players who are passionate about the format are able to play in an event that they would otherwise not have been able to play in. Placeholder/proxies should not be used as a form of gamesmanship to try and confuse opponents and gain an advantage in the game itself.
