Event Overview
The first Commander Academy tournament of the year opens with something legendary.
To welcome 2026, we’re hosting The A-B-C Showdown — a celebration of beginnings, alphabets, and the encyclopedic depth of Magic itself. Compete across 5 rounds of high-level Commander, test your strategy under Silent EDH rules, and wager points in the Japanese God of Commander system to climb the standings.
Your ranking at the end determines your place in the Encyclopedia Prize Draft, where every card is a collectible piece of Magic history.

🧩 Format Details
🗿 Japanese God of Commander — Point Wager
- Each player starts with 1000 points
- Each round player wagers 7% of their current points.
- Winning player wins all wagered points.
- A draw will result in all players losing the wagered points
🤫 Silent EDH
- During gameplay:
- No table talk
- No negotiating
- No political discussions
- No non-verbal actions for attempts of political discussion
- No intentional revealing of your own cards allowed
- Only clear, factual game statements allowed (“I’m declaring attackers,” “I pass priority,” etc.)
- Warnings will be given by judges for infractions.
- After a second warning for infractions, if a player is caught with third infraction, the player will be given a game loss in that game. 4th infraction will result in disqualification from the event.
Silence tests skill, not persuasion.
🎁 Prize Structure
A sealed Secret Lair: An Encyclopedia of Magic will be opened at the end of the event.
Final standings determine the pick order.
Finish higher, pick earlier.

Additional details
- If there isn't 16 players for the event, it will be changed to a regular Commander Academy tourney giving out 5 Universe Beyond Boosters to 1st place, 3 UB Boosters to 2-4th place and 2 UB Boosters to all other players.
- If there are >20 players for the event, every additional 4 players will result in organizer adding an additional random Secret Lair drop to the pool.
- All participants must submit a decklist to the event by 2 Jan 2026 (Friday), 11.59pm on TopDeck.gg.
- Decklist must be submitted as a link (Moxfield is preferred).
- Playtest cards: Any number for this private unsanctioned event.
- All alters must be approved by the Judge/TO before the event begins.
- "Test" Cards must be once piece of cardboard with the same thickness as a normal Magic card.
- You will not be allowed to slip printed pieces of paper in front of a Magic card.
- Must be identifiable as a "Test Card" and NOT counterfeit.
- You must use "Test Card" that are in proper color, using easily identifiable art, without any offensive images (to be determined by Judge/TO).
- Please bring your own tokens, dice, counters and stickers to avoid delays.
- Bring extra pair of sleeves just in case.
- Any player may report in or out of game incidents of harrassment, bullying, kingmaking or colluding.
- Such incidents will be investigated under Infraction Procedure Guide Section 4: Unsporting Conduct.
- The Judge Team and the TO have final say in arbitration on kingmaking/collusion investigations
- Lucky draws will be given out each round.
- To promote proper tournament plays, each lucky draw will draw out 2 names and the higher ranked player will win the lucky draw. If both players are tied - they both win the lucky draw - TO will provide additional prize. Lucky draw winner(s) will be excluded from subsequent lucky draws.
