BREACH THE BAY 2 - cEDH 25k - AUGUST 22nd & 23rd

Event Information:

  • This will be a 2-day event, hosted alongside the Topdeck Invitational.
  • 6 rounds day 1, cut to top 64 for day 2.
  • Location will be San Mateo Convention Center - Fiesta Hall [ 1346 Saratoga Dr, San Mateo, CA 94403 ]
  • Entry will be $125
  • Player cap is 580 with a waitlist, lets make this the largest event in cEDH history!
  • Event will be livestreamed both days
  • Decklists are REQUIRED for this event. Judges will perform deck checks throughout the rounds, failure to have a submitted decklist will result in a penalty.
  • This event is completely proxy friendly!! Paper slips in front of cards are NOT allowed [ FULL PROXY POLICY AT BOTTOM OF PAGE ]

Invitational Players:

  • Players who sign up for Breach the Bay 2 and end up qualifying for the 2026 Topdeck Invitational will get a full refund of entry costs paid.
  • We will be giving 6 free entries to Breach the Bay to players on the Topdeck Invitational Leaderboard who end in 65th - 70th place.

Prizing [$25,000 Minimum Guaranteed]:

Payouts will be made to the Top 64 players in the following amounts:

1st: $3,850.00, Champion Playmat, and Trophy

2nd - 4th: $1,650.00 each & Top 4 Playmat

5th - 16th: $450.00 each & Top 16 Playmat

17th - 64th: $225.00 each

Payouts will upgrade at 475 & 550 signups

Rules:

DAY 1

  • The tournament will start at 8:00 AM, on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026
  • The tournament will be capped at 580 players.
  • We will have 6 rounds day 1, with a cut to top 64 on day 2.
  • Rounds will be 80 minutes, with 20 minutes of overtime.
  • If no player wins by end of overtime, a draw will be given to the table.

DAY 2

  • The tournament will start at 8:30 AM, on Sunday, August 23rd, 2026

  • All rounds of Day 2 will be ran as single elimination.

  • Top 64 - will be 120 minutes, with 20 minutes of overtime.

  • Top 16 - will be 120 minutes, with 20 minutes of overtime.

  • Top 4 - will be 180 minutes, with 20 minutes of overtime.

  • In the event a winner is not determined by end of overtime, the winner will be the highest alive seat in the pod.

Points Structure:

  • This tournament will be utilizing the "Japanese" point structure in the Swiss rounds.
    • Players will begin with 1000 points at the start of the tournament
    • Each round 7% of a players points will removed and added to a pool.
    • Winner will take all points, draws will result in elimination of all current points from the pool
    • Players will have random pairings, regardless of current standing
    • All standings will be hidden and announced at end of day 1.

Schedule

Day 1 - Saturday Aug 22nd

  • 7:30 AM - Player check-in will open in the Foyer of the building
  • 8:00 AM - Event Hall opens, check-in continues
  • 8:45 AM - Player's Meeting
  • 9:00 AM - Round 1 Begins
  • 8:30 PM - Venue Closes.

Day 2 - Sunday Aug 23rd

  • 7:30 AM - Player check-in will open for redemption event
  • 8:00 AM - Event Hall Opens, redemption check-in and registration continues
  • 8:15 AM - Day 2 Players Meeting
  • 8:30 AM - Top 64 begins
  • 9:00 AM - Redemption Event Begins
  • 8:30 PM - Venue Closes

  • Attendees of Artist Alley will be announced in the coming months!
  • We will have vendors including Doot Loot, Merlion Games, Goldsabertooth, & The Mana Vault MKE!

ALTER & PROXY POLICY:

Altered Cards: Artistic modifications may not obstruct or change the mana cost or name of the card. Artistic modifications may not change the card's art to become the art of another Magic the Gathering Card. Artistic modifications may** NOT** contain substantial strategic advice, disparaging remarks, or contain offensive images.

Proxied Cards: All Proxied cards must utilize official WOTC Art, with name and mana cost easily legible. "Paper Slip" proxies are not allowed at this event, it is expected any proxied cards would be consistent in size, thickness, and feel of a Magic Card.

WOTC MDFC Placeholder Cards: Players may utilize up to 10 blank WOTC MDFC Placeholder Cards in lieu of a proxy or a real card. If a player wishes to utilize WOTC MDFC Placeholder Cards, the name, mana costs, type, power/toughness, and any other oracle text (or as much that can reasonably fit), must be written legibly.
