Rules
High-Powered Commander Tournament Rules
Deck Format: Each player's deck must adhere to the Commander format rules β 100 cards, including the commander, no duplicates (besides basic lands), and only cards within the commander's color identity.
Budget Limit: The total value of each deck, including the commander, should not exceed $500. This valuation will be determined using an agreed-upon website or source (e.g., TCGPlayer Mid prices) to ensure uniformity in pricing.
Proxies: Proxies are not allowed in this format. All cards must be genuine.
Deck Verification: Before the tournament, players should submit a decklist along with the current price for each card from the agreed-upon pricing source. Random deck checks may be conducted to ensure adherence to the budget limit. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.
Game Structure: Games will consist of 3-4 player pods. The tournament will be structured in Swiss rounds, with the number of rounds and cut to top 8 (or another number) depending on participant count.
Win Conditions: Games are won through traditional Magic: The Gathering win conditions or via commander-specific rules (21 commander damage).
Mulligan Rule: The London Mulligan will be applied. Players may take a mulligan by shuffling their hand into their library and drawing seven new cards. For each mulligan taken after the first, players will put one card from their hand on the bottom of their library.
Time Limit: Each round will have a predetermined time limit (commonly 90 minutes for Commander). If a game hasn't finished when the time is up, the current turn will finish, and then the game will end after five additional turns. The player with the highest life total at the end of these turns will be declared the winner. If there is a tie in life totals, the game is declared a draw.
Conduct: Sportsmanship is paramount. Abusive behavior, cheating, or unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated and may result in immediate disqualification.
Disputes: If there's a dispute, players should first attempt to resolve it among themselves. If a resolution can't be achieved, a judge will be consulted. The judge's decision is final.
Deck Modifications: Once the tournament begins, decks cannot be altered between rounds. Sideboards are not allowed in this format.
Special Consideration for Budget: As the emphasis of this format is on a budget constraint, players are encouraged to think creatively and strategically. Costly staple cards may not be feasible, promoting a diverse and unpredictable meta.
Remember: The emphasis on a budget doesn't limit the fun, strategy, or competitiveness. It's all about finding those hidden gems and underrated powerhouses to take your opponents by surprise!
