Welcome to the inaugural Thunder games CEDH tournament!
We know that the greater Coeur d’Alene area has been without a venue for Competitive Commander tournaments for a while, and we are here to fill that gap.
Please come out and support the local scene, and help us learn and grow together!
This event has an entry fee of $30 and is 100% proxy friendly!
Registration and player meeting will be at 11 AM.
Start time is at 11:30. If you do not arrive by 11:05, you may not be allowed entry into the event.
Please arrive promptly so that we can complete the tournament in a timely fashion that is respectful of all player’s time.
A Topdeck account is free to sign up for. It is required to submit decklists and view match pairings on the day of the event. You must have a Topdeck account to be eligible to play
Decklists are required for this event. Please use Moxfield to submit your decklist via topdeck upon registration.
The boring stuff you need to read follows.
Proxies:
Proxies must use official magic art, must be printed cards with no discernible thickness difference from a regular card, and may not be paper slips in front of other cards.
No cards that may be considered “marked” due to thickness differences, visible or conspicuous bending, scratching, or marking on the card/sleeve will be allowed.
The judge has final say on event day, and may do deck checks as applicable.
Life totals and note taking:
Please bring a pen and paper, manual life counter, or “boogie board” to track important game actions, and/or life totals, as electronic counters may fail or be disallowed, and dice are strictly not allowed for tracking life total.
Please note that visible paper in match may only be from that match, no decklists, etc.
General rules notes:
Please be kind and courteous to all players, be patient with judges and event organizers, and understand that tournament competitive play is held to a higher average standard than casual commander. “Take backs” are not allowed (in general), game actions must be taken promptly, and players must make every reasonable effort to maintain an accurate game state.
Barring specific exemptions granted by a judge, or necessitated by a health condition, exigent circumstances etc, you may not use electronic devices (cell phones or tablets in particular) during games.
Tournament structure:
Depending on attendance, there will be 3-5 rounds of Swiss pairing, with a cut to top 10, with the top two players in Swiss rankings passing through to the final round, and the remaining 8 top ranked players playing in pods for the remaining two slots.
Wins in Swiss will represent 5 points, a draw will award all players in the pod 1 point, and a loss will award no points.
Swiss rounds will be 80 minutes long, with small extensions granted for restroom breaks, etc per judges authorization.
At the end of time in the round, the active player will receive 20 minutes to finish their turn. Once the 20 minutes has ended, the current stack will resolve and no other actions may be taken at this time.
A judge may be called to ensure no “slow play” is happening at any time, and ensure the prompt resolution of the stack.
If no winner has been determined at 20 minutes beyond time, or by the end of that player’s turn, the match will result in a draw in Swiss.
If this is a top cut or finals match, the winner will default to the highest ranked player in Swiss, with tie breakers being based on opponent win rate.
Byes will be avoided if possible, 3 pods are not preferred, but will be utilized in place of byes if at all applicable.
This tournament will utilize the MTRa/IPGa used by TopDeck and will generally be held to Comp/REL standards with exceptions or modification as determined by judging staff.
Prizing for the event will be a division of store credit apportioned to the top 4 based on placement and number of entrants.
