Judging

As this is a smaller scale event, we are trialling this event without a judge. This is mainly in the interest of keeping costs down and to not take too much from the prize pool. That being said, MCL staff and Luna Cards store staff will be happy to assist with any judge calls should they be required.

Play-test policy

This event will be play-test friendly.

You will need to use "test cards" that are printed in colour and utilize recognizable art. These printouts can be slipped in front of another card however the printout must not be seen from the top of the sleeve.

If you are using a mixed deck, that features real cards and print outs slipped in front of other cards we will require the real cards be double sleeves so that your deck can have a consistent thickness.

If you are using high quality play-test cards printed on card stock, this must be distinguishable from a real magic card such that it cannot be considered as a counterfeit. The MCL does not condone counterfeits in anyway.

Alters and Card Art

CEDH is a format where the game state can be quite complicated (especially with it being a 4 player format). Card recognisability can play a significant role in ensuring players and judges can have a clear understanding of the game's current board state.

In addition to requiring proxies that use official magic art, we require that any altered cards or cards with alter sleeves keep the recognisability of the original art work in tact.

Some general guidelines to follow when it comes to alters:

  • Art work extensions are typically fine. Ideally the rules text is still clear and readable.
  • Full art replacements will not be accepted.
  • Partial modifications like small stickers or the addition of new characters will be at the judges discretion.

With altered cards there can be a lot of gray area as the possibilities are practically endless. If you are unsure about whether your altered card will be acceptable, we recommend that you either bring a spare copy of the card with the official magic art (proxy or real), and/or you seek head judge approval prior to the start of the tournament.
