Commander Tournament - NON CEDH - Power Level 7
Magic: The Gathering: EDH
Event Details
Event Description
This is an independent Tournament, which is not WPN sanctioned and which is not affiliated with any of the local MTG WPN stores. It is an event which is being organised by Albert Agius, an old timer who has been doing this for the past 15 years and whose main interest is the growth of the local MTG community.
This event is aimed at players of all levels. If you are a beginner or a seasoned player you are welcome to join!
The main aims of the event are:
- to allow players to experience a tournament setting, and get used to the playing within such a setting
- to enable players to test their own deck building skills!
- player engagement and fun!
As organiser, I shall be considering the event a success if by the end all players can report a positive experience, and if players return to other events offered by me in the future.
The event will be held as part of a boardgame day organised by Pandamonium Malta! This means that if you would like to bring along your friends and/or family members (who may not be interested in MTG), they can spend a day trying out different board games (a small fee will apply) whilst you get to enjoy MTG time! That way everybody wins 😉
Free MTG demos will also be offered during the event!
EVENT Location
The event will take place at IMPACT Youth Centre in Qormi. 102-106 Triq San Bartolomew, Ħal Qormi, Malta.

- Participation Gift to Each Participant

Rules
- The event is capped at power level 7 (7.1 - 7.9) as per www.commandersalt.com
- Players are to submit decklist via Topdeck.gg by the indicated deadline.
- Power level for each deck will be double checked prior to the event. Decklists may be checked during the event as well.
- Decks are to follow the normal rules and banned list for Multiplayer Commander available at https://magic.wizards.com/en/banned-restricted-list.
- Proxies will be allowed (this is not a WPN sanctioned event) and the amount is unlimited. All proxies are to be printed in full colour (black and white proxies are to be avoided).
- Each round will last a total of 75 minutes. Players will play a minimum of 3 swiss rounds followed by a cut-off to top 4. The winner of the top 4 table will win the event.
Points per Round will be attributed accordingly:
- • A win awards 5 points
- • A draw awards 1 point (for all players except those incurring harsh penalties – Round Loss or Disqualification)
- • A loss awards 0 points
Rounds will last 75 minutes, and once time ends, an Extra Turn for each Starting Player. If a Player is killed before time ends, they still started the game and will count towards the number of Extra Turns.
Extra Turns will also be capped to 20 minutes. Once this Extra Time ends, Players will no longer be able to interact with the Stack, and Priority will automatically be passed until the Stack is fully resolved. Triggers will still be added to the Stack. Once the Stack is resolved, if no Winner is declared, the Round will end in a Draw. If possible, a Judge is present throughout this process.
If a Player believes an Opponent is slow playing, call a Judge, who will then observe the Game and proceed accordingly.
Banned Commanders
- Based on feedback gathered from our first event, it was noted that some commanders are not hindered by power level capping. Since the aim of this event is to hold a non-cEDH event which focuses mainly on personally brewed decks, and is open to players of all levels (beginner to expert), the following commanders will not be allowed during the event:

(the list is based on the Top Commanders in the past 3 months, sorted by popularity and conversion rate, on EDH Top 16 - https://edhtop16.com/?timePeriod=ONE_MONTH&sortBy=POPULARITY )
Event Power Level Cap and Tournament Rules Enforcement
The event is being capped at power level 7.9. The deck score is to be determined via www.commandersalt.com. All players are to check their decks through this website prior to submission. This system is being used to try and limit the options of cEDH commanders in the event. This is by no means a fool-proof solution and players are to expect the odd exception to the rule which manages to fly under the radar, and/or which due to the restrictions imposed becomes more powerful.
Although the event is not a Competitive EDH event, players are still paying a fee to participate, and a prize is at stake, so players are to expect some degree of competition. However in spite of the foregoing, players are reminded that most players will be joining with a "social gathering with the potential of a prize" mentality and hence we urge participants to (as much as possible) join with this same attitude.
With regards to rules enforcement, although one of the main aims of this event is player engagement and fun, providing players with experience of playing within a tournament setting is equally important! Therefore, a certain degree of rule enforcement will apply, especially in what constitutes time management. A judge will be overseeing the event, and any ruling and/or decision taken by them is to be respected and observed.
Due to the casual-competitive nature of the Event, Warnings will be handed out but not in full accordance with the Magic Infraction Procedure Guide (found here). Instead, Warnings will be used in dire situations after a Judge has spoken to the concerned Player, and when a Judge believes:
- • a Player is repeatedly making the same mistake
- • not communicating properly or being disrespectful during play
- • repeated slow play
- • and unsporting conduct
After a player receives 4 Warnings across the event, they receive a Round Loss.
In more egregious scenarios, such as cheating, destruction of property, etc., a Round Loss or Disqualification may be immediately issued.
Prizing
Prizes will take the form of Vouchers redeemable for MTG Singles from Albert Agius (event organiser). The amount of each voucher will depend on the number of players taking part in the event.
Prize vouchers will be allocated as follows:
The winner of each table in each round will recieve a prize voucher
All 4 players playing the final table as follows will recieve a prize voucher
A Participation Prize in the form of a Booster Pack (from available editions) will be given to all players taking part in the event.
