Bar-B-Cube

Event Information

The Mana Vault is excited to announce Bar-B-Cube, a 64-player Cube Draft summer extravaganza! We’re featuring 8 spicy cubes from the Greater Milwaukee area, including the store’s new Mono Red Cube!!! And who better to bring the heat than Basic Mountain himself Patrick Sullivan -- co-host of The Resleevables podcast, game designer, former SCG commentator / Pro Tour competitor and Bar-B-Cube Special Guest!!!

Bar-B-Cube includes two cube drafts, separated with a BBQ lunch break and followed by a cut to top 8 based on record. The top 8 players will draft the Mono Red Cube to decide the first ever Bar-B-Cube champion!!!

We are capping this event at 64 total players and YOU MUST pre-register to be eligible to play. We expect to sell out, so make sure you register ASAP!

Entry cost is $70 and includes a lunch of pork belly burnt ends and side (with veggie options) and a drink card provided by Faklandia Brewing!

Bar-B-Cube will be held on Saturday, June 15th and will start promptly at 9:30 AM! Doors open at 8:30 AM. It is VERY IMPORTANT to show up early, so we can fire the first draft on schedule.

Full Event Schedule is as follows:

• Checkin: 8:30 - 9:30 AM
• 1st Draft: 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM
• Lunch break: 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
• 2nd Draft: 2:30 PM - 6:30 PM
• Top 8 / Open Play: 6:30 PM - 12 AM

As the event nears closer, registrants will have the opportunity to rank the cubes they would like to play from most to least favorite. We will place you in drafts of your preferred cubes to the best of our ability!!

Designers of each featured cube will have finalized their card list by May 15th, at which point Bar-B-Cube attendees can begin playtest practicing them on Cube Cobra!

Prizing

​1st Place - Bar-B-Cube Champion Trophy;$200 store credit; and a spot in a special exhibition match at Cube Con 2024. Full details of the exhibition match will be announced at a later date by CubeCon

2nd Place - $100 Store Credit

3rd - 8th Place - $50 Store Credit

Additional extra special custom-made event prizes are awarded to all who make Top 8!

In the swiss rounds, players will be awarded $6 Store Credit per win.

Over $400 in various other prizes will be given out as special bonuses to random players throughout the event; among these may be t-shirts, playmats, singles, and other shop goodies. We are placing a bounty on our special guest Patrick Sullivan: Anyone who manages to take a match against Patrick will win $20 in store credit!!

Rules

​This event has a 64-player cap.

There are 6 rounds of swiss.

Each round will be 50 minutes in length.

After time in the round is called, active player will finish their turn and players will have 5 additional turns.

Wins are worth 3 points, draws are worth 1 point.

After swiss, there will be a cut to top 8 based on points awarded during the swiss, then single elimination rounds will determine Bar-B-Cube Champion. Players in the top 8 will draft the Mono Red Cube.

This tournament will be held to Regular REL standards.

No food or drink will be allowed on the tables during this event.

Cards are not to leave the table. If you need to step away from the table for any reason, call a judge first.

We are playing with cards owned by our players. Be careful when shuffling and handling cards at all times!!

Open Play

After the two scheduled drafts, we encourage attendees who do not make Top 8 to stay for open play. Several players will bring their own cubes and fire drafts on a rolling basis until the store closes at midnight!

Additional Information

We have offered the designers of our featured cubes free entry into Bar-B-Cube, so we only have 57 tickets for sale!

If all available tickets are sold, then you may contact us by email at [email protected] to be put on a waiting list in case someone can no longer attend! Open seats will be filled from the waiting list in the order that they were received!

IF YOU NEED TO DROP AFTER YOU HAVE ALREADY PRE-REGISTERED, PLEASE LET US KNOW ASAP SO WE CAN OPEN UP YOUR SPOT TO OUR WAITING LIST! In the event of a player needing to cancel their registration, the refund window for registration payments closes on June 13th at 11:59PM! Refunds will not be issued for any cancellations after that time, so make sure you plan accordingly!
