Metagame: Archetypes, Win Rates, and Top Cut for Every Event

Today we're launching Metagame on TopDeck. Every event with decklists now gets a breakdown of what the field played and how each deck did, with win rates, top cut conversion, colors, and the most-played cards. It updates live during the event, and once the event ends, players can see it on the bracket page.

You don't have to export decklists and count by hand to post what won anymore. Your past events already have it too: commander and Magic 60-card events back to January 2025 have their decks labeled, so open your last event and take a look.

The board

Open an event and select Metagame under Run. Each deck gets a row with how many players brought it, its record and win rate, how many of its pilots made top cut, and its best finish. When a deck converted to top cut better than the field did, its number turns green, so you can see which decks overperformed. Win % shows once a deck has five results.

Below the board, Top cut lists everyone who made the cut with their finish and deck. Riftbound events keep their "Best of" Legend prize tracking, now with the same record, win rate, and top cut columns. Coverage staff can open Metagame too, so your casters have the numbers on stream.

Every deck gets a name

Each game gets the label its players already use:

  • Commander formats group by commander.
  • Riftbound groups by Legend.
  • Magic 60-card formats (Legacy, Modern, Pauper, Pioneer, Premodern, Standard, and Vintage) are named automatically from the decklist.
  • Every other game uses a new Archetype field where players submit their deck, on the website and in the TopDeck app. It suggests names other players in the format already use, so one deck doesn't get split across several spellings.

A typed name has to match the list. If a player calls their deck something its cards clearly aren't, the deck shows under the archetype the cards point to, and the player gets a note saying so.

Anything that needs a staff decision lands in Review: names that don't match their list, and decks with no archetype. Set archetypes one at a time or several at once, and your label always wins.

Colors, seats, and cards

Colors breaks the field down by color combination, like "Izzet (UR)" or "Four-color (WUBR)", for Magic, Riftbound, One Piece, and Gundam.

Seats shows the win rate for each seat in turn order on pod events, and how often pods end in a draw.

Cards lists the most-played cards, with how many decks run each one and how many copies. Narrow it to one archetype to compare builds.

For players, after the event

When an event ends, its bracket page gets a Metagame tab next to Standings and Pairings. Players can browse the archetype board, every player's deck with their finish, and the most-played cards. Click a card to see it on TCGplayer.

Archetypes follow your decklist settings, so nobody gets scouted early. They go public when the event ends, or sooner if you've turned on Show Decks, and then they also show under player names in standings and pairings. Commanders and Legends are face-up anyway, so they show from the start.

For developers

The Tournament API now returns each deck's archetype in standings and rounds, public under the same rule as decklists, and commander decks carry their commander in leader. Building a tool for an event you staff? Add ?view=staff to see decklists and archetypes live. Details are in the API docs.

Available now

Metagame is live now. Other games fill in as players name their decks. Tell us what you'd want to see across events and formats.
