June 16, 2025Circuit Management Revamp - Powering Tournament Series and Invitationals
Today we're unveiling a complete overhaul of circuit management on TopDeck.gg. Whether you're running a weekly league that builds to a championship, organizing qualifying events for an invitational, or managing a multi-store tournament series, our new circuit system gives you the tools to create engaging competitive experiences that keep players coming back.
What Are Circuits?
Circuits are tournament series where multiple events contribute to a running leaderboard. Think Pro Tour Qualifiers leading to the Pro Tour, weekly tournaments building toward a store championship, or regional events that culminate in a major invitational. The new system makes organizing these complex multi-event experiences significantly easier.
Complete Interface Redesign
We've moved from a cramped single-page interface to a clean, tab-based system that organizes functionality logically:
- Circuit Info: Configure your series details, descriptions, and visual branding
- Point Manager: Design sophisticated point structures and qualification criteria
- Events: Add tournaments with multiple convenient methods
- Leaderboard: Track standings with enhanced modification tools and qualification badges
- Organizers: Collaborate with other organizers seamlessly
Advanced Point Structures & Qualifications
The heart of any good circuit is how it rewards performance. Our new point system supports:
Three Point Group Types:
- Placement-Based: Award points based on tournament finish (1st = 10 points, 2nd = 8 points, etc.)
- Game Wins-Based: Points for each match won or drawn throughout the event
- Custom Groups: Apply special point structures to specific tournaments (like giving extra points for your championship event)
Flexible Qualification System:
- Set point thresholds for qualification (e.g., "50+ points qualifies for the invitational")
- Define qualifying placements within point groups (e.g., "Top 8 in any Premier event qualifies")
- Automatic qualification badge assignment
- Players can qualify through multiple paths, but only need one
Streamlined Tournament Management
Adding events to your circuit is now effortless with three convenient methods:
- Create New Tournament: Build tournaments directly within the circuit interface
- Add Existing Tournament: Browse and select from your previously created tournaments
- Add by Tournament ID: Include tournaments from other organizers (with permission)
Tournament owners maintain full control over their events while circuit organizers can apply custom point structures and manage the overall series.
Enhanced Leaderboard Features
Your circuit leaderboard now includes:
- Qualification Badges: Instantly see who has earned their invite
- Enhanced Point Modification Tracking: Full history of manual adjustments with timestamps and reasons
- Better Modification Management: Edit or remove previous point adjustments
Organizer Collaboration
Running large tournament series often requires multiple organizers. Our new organizer system lets you:
- Add collaborators by email address
- Organizers can add their own tournaments and manage events they own
- Maintain security with role-based access controls
This makes it easy to run multi-store circuits, collaborative leagues, or large-scale tournament series with distributed organization responsibilities.
Use Cases
Store Championship Series: Run weekly tournaments throughout the season, each awarding points toward your store championship. Set qualification thresholds so regular players earn their spot in the big event.
Regional Circuit: Coordinate with multiple stores in your area. Each location can add their events while you manage the overall point structure and track qualified players.
Invitational Qualification: Create a year-long circuit where premier events award qualification directly while smaller events contribute points toward threshold qualification.
Seasonal Leagues: Run structured seasons with staff helping manage different divisions or formats, all feeding into unified championship events.
Questions About the Update?
Q: Do my existing circuits still work?
A: Yes, all existing circuits remain fully functional with no changes required.
Q: Can I try the new features on existing circuits?
A: Absolutely! You can enhance existing circuits with staff management, qualification systems, and improved tournament organization.
Q: How do qualification badges work?
A: They automatically appear on your leaderboard when players meet your defined criteria, updating in real-time as standings change.
Q: Can staff members modify point structures?
A: No, only circuit owners can modify point groups and qualification settings. Staff can manage tournaments they own within the established framework.
